Reno Helping Democrats Recruit Hispanics Former Attorney General Janet Reno is trying to help the Democratic Party recruit Hispanic voters.
Reno was the headliner at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon Thursday on Miami Beach. She's trying to help the Democratic Party to reach its goal of 200,000 registered Hispanic voters in Florida.
During her speech, Reno commented on the state's diversity.
"That is this community's strength. But diversity is also the friction and the fuss and the tension and the disputes," Reno said.
Protesters Dozens of Reno protestors were at the Miami Beach Convention Center Thursday where Reno gave her speech. They criticized Reno on the one-year anniversary of the return of Elian Gonzalez to Cuba.
Reno was attorney general and gave the go-ahead for the operation in which federal agents took the boy from his Miami relatives.
